How can we reduce the cost of mold development and manufacturing

Mold development accounts for a large part of the cost of product development, including plastic molds, metal stamping molds, and so on. Since the cost issue is involved, it is naturally linked directly to the final product profit. How can we control or reduce the cost of mold development as much as possible? Today, with the rapid development of the manufacturing industry, how to reduce the long development cycle and high cost of the mold has become a new goal pursued by everyone.
Product material selection
Under the premise of meeting the product strength requirements, enterprises should try to use the more common and versatile, cost-effective materials on the market. For example, our company has developed molds for many e-cigarette manufacturers. Some heating elements need to withstand high temperatures of 300 degrees. PEEK materials are used, and some heating elements are resistant to high temperatures of around 270 degrees, and can usually be done with LCP or PPS. There is a great disparity here. The lowest price of PEEK engineering materials is nearly 1,000 yuan/kg, while the LCP and PPS are not more than 100. Some product developers are not really aware of the highest temperature the product is subjected to, and they want to be more safe. It is clear that it will not exceed 270 degrees. It is hard to use 300 degrees to request its own products. Of course, some local tyrants are also normal. The key is to look at the positioning of products.
2. Product structure
When developing a variety of products, you should consider the versatility of the product. In addition, the product should simplify the structure, avoid the increase of the mold process or the complexity of the mold structure.
3. Application of synchronous engineering
The plastic mold synchronization project is in the product design stage. The mold design engineer first intervenes to analyze the product process, eliminate errors and defects in the design stage, and shorten the mold development cycle. As can be seen from the figure, the use of synchronous engineering eliminates a process step, so that tooling manufacturing starts in the shortest time and provides sufficient time for manufacturing.
4. Mold design
Some structures are redundant in the design of the mold structure. For example, in order to ensure a smooth take-up, the pneumatic topping device is often retained on the mold, which is hardly used in actual production.
5. Mold steel
The mold life requirements directly affect the material selection of the mold. Our company generally requires the service life of the mold to be 500,000 times. However, in the current multi-variety, small and medium-sized production, the service life of the mold continues to be 500,000 times. The wall thickness of the mold can be appropriately reduced to reduce the cost. Although China's related mold industry has experienced rapid development this year, it has been a serious injury. It is not easy to buy high-quality steel. The steels commonly used in plastic mold manufacturing are P20, 718H, S136, NAK80, etc. Products that are not particularly high and simple in structure can be used directly from the mold blank. Under the premise of meeting the high life requirements of the mold, the integral insert or split insert can be selected according to the size of the parts required in the working part. There are many factors that affect the cost of mold manufacturing. The actual situation of each enterprise is different, and the requirements for mold products are different.
